So where is the fix. I'm getting a claims authentication error on Sharepoint 2010, I'm pointed to this page which tells me I need a hotfix, I dont want to search the list of other available hotfixes I just want to download the fix and get on with my work!

Click on the 'Downloads' tab above the article.

There needs to be text on this page flatly saying (or maybe a link) that the downloads tab is where you get the hotfix. I am used to technet articles, where the link is in the article.

Direct link to the download would be good.
Like 'boled' I am using CBA in SP2010 on Win2008R2. I assume I need the Win6.1 (Win7) download - this could be clearer.

Installing Exchange 2010 on Server 2008 Ent. SP2 and have been directed to this page to install prerequisite hotfixes on the servers, and yet these hotfixes are all for Vista or Win7?! Judging by the comments, I'm not convinced I want to install these on my servers. Also, the description for this hotfix in the KB article says it is for Sharepoint, not Exchange. Typical MS...clear as mud.

Have just found an article from an Exchange Administrator that helps to make this a bit more clear. For Exchange 2010, you MUST install all of the listed hotfixes or the install won't complete. For Server 2008 SP2, use Vista hotfix. For Server 2008 R2, use Win 7 hotfix. Would it have been too difficult for MS to include this info on the relevant pages?

Hi, I have SharePoint 2010 installed in the 2008 R2 Standard with SP1. And in Central Administration I have an issue pointing to this KB. I try to install Windows6.1-KB979917-x64 and the installer returns me "The update is not applicable to your computer". Now what? What is the right file to download? Any one can help me?.
Thanks.

I have the same issue as RCaldas. I have 2008 R2 Standard. 2 days ago, the health and monitoring warning about requiring an update was not present. I updated to SP1 earlier this morning. Now the warning has appeard. Downloading the windows 7 x64 msu shows me "This update is not applicable to your computer" - Does the MSU need to be extracted and tweaked, or a registry setting changed to bypass the check that causes this install error? Please advise.

Yep, I have same issue as both TedB and RCaldas on a win2008 R2 X64 Sp1. Has anyone notified Microsoft regarding this one?

Any update about the correct hotfix installer?

Looks like the reason for "The update is not applicable to your computer" is that the hotfix is already included in 2008 R2 SP1.
Would be nice if MS docs that refer to this hotfix stated that it is unneeded if sp1 is installed.
