File Classification Infrastructure
FCI is new with Windows Server 2008 R2.
Are your file servers full of stale data? Does your file management policy dictate how you lay out your storage? The File Classification Infrastructure is a new feature within the File Server Role and File Server Resource Manager (FSRM). FCI is extensible, customizable, and can help with many enterprise content managment scenarios.
FSRM has long been a tool to help IT administrators manage their storage allocations. In Windows Server 2008 R2, FSRM has become even more powerful with the addition of File Management Tasks that automatically perform operations on a dynamically selected set of files. IT administrators can leverage the File Classification Infrastructure to automatically classify files, run reports, and apply policy based on file classification properties. Developers can leverage the FCI API's to create custom file classification extensions.
