Change History (all pages)
The Optimization Domain Specific Language (ODSL) shipping in the current CTP of F# is built with the new Microsoft Solver Foundation.
Solver Foundation is a modeling and optimization framework enabling strategic, business planning, risk modeling, scheduling, configuration, and decision optimization while utilizing the full power of the NETfx platform. Solver Foundation is delivered as a compact, CLS-compliant assembly for embedding in client, server, or Cloud computation settings. This purely, managed code library is a declarative constraint-programming engine framework for strategic decisioneering and mathematical programming. It aides modelers and programmers to make feasible, optimal, and near optimal decisions in mission critical settings as well as what-if? modeling scenarios. It is a framework which plugs in several specific solvers that are good for one or more domain and modeling situations and third party solver integration is supported.
A Solver Foundation program is a declarative model consisting of a few simple components that is solved by application of solvers, meta-heuristics, local and deterministic search techniques, and combinatorial optimization mechanisms. Included in the release are sophisticated pre-solve, checking, and analysis of models. These Solver Foundation Services may be leveraged by any of the solvers and provide a rich set of services to aide in modeling, solving, and post-optimality analysis. Solver Foundation provides a set of scalable and performance-driven solvers and services while supporting integration with industry standard modeling and serialization formats to ensure decision-making workflow integration. This permits users to leverage their existing modeling investments directly and at zero cost within Solver Foundation.
From Office Excel2007 workbooks to NetFX 3.5+ enabled applications, Solver Foundation provides a new class of services to users working with complex modeling and optimization problems.
